About
20-27 August 2017
A week of free training in omic sciences
The aim of this Research MIMOmics Summer School including the Workshop in Omic Studies is to train a new generation of statistical omics scientists of the biological and technological background for data measurements and for data analysis methodologies. It is intended for anyone with interest to apply modern methods on these data.
The summer school and the workshop consist of 2 parts:
-
The workshop in omic studies where state of the art epidemiology methods and bioinformatics applications will be given by renowned scientists of MIMOmics (www.mimomics.eu). Students will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with omics and statistical technologies.
-
The Summer School where hands-on training and research projects will be provided for small groups of students (2-4). Students will be able to choose from a series of research projects.
A top-line agenda of the school is as follows:
-
0.5 day introduction for the students on Sunday and start of workshop,
-
2.5 days the Dissemination workshop for broader public,
-
0.5 day off, and
-
3.5 days summer school.
The registration to the Workshop in Omic Sciences is FREE and can be found here. Students participating in the Summer School do not need to register separately for the Workshop.
The registration to the summer school is FREE. Information about travelling and accommodation can be found below.
MIMOmics provides funds for a number of travel scholarships (7) to help defray costs of school participation. Participants will be provided with certificate of participation.

Accommodation options
In colleges:
Probably the best options for accomodation are provided by colleges. Almost all of the other colleges are within walking distance of the William Gates Building, and most offer accomodation. In particular, some of the closest are:
-
Churchill
-
Robinson
-
Selwyn
Rooms in other colleges can also be found via www.universityrooms.com
Hotels:
Hotels in Cambridge are mainly in the centre. Some of the biggest are the Hilton, the Royal Cambridge Hotel, and Hotel du Vin.
Travel
Around Cambridge:
Cambridge is small enough that walking and cycling are normally the best ways to get around. There is very little parking so driving is not recommended, but the taxis are good, and there are regular buses.
Arriving by plane:
Stansted Airport is the closest major airport, an approx. 40 minute train journey away from Cambridge. From other airports the best options is to go to London and take the train from King's Cross.
Arriving by train:
Cambridge Railway Station is around an hour from London King's Cross or Liverpool Street, or 40 minutes from Stansted Airport. From the station it is best to take a taxi or the Uni 4 bus.
Arriving by car:
Cambridge is about an hour's drive from London, just off the M11 motorway.
